WHO IS DJ?

(“DJ”) stands for DON JOHNSON.

Father of the owners, Mark & Chuck Johnson. DJ was born & raised in Fargo-Moorhead. He attended elementary school at St. Francis in North Moorhead & went to High School at Fargo Shanley. DJ worked as a firefighter for the city of Moorhead for 35 years, retiring at the age of 55. DJ learned to love the game of golf after purchasing golf clubs at Montgomery Ward with his wife, Carolyn. As newlyweds, they went into the store for dishes & came out with golf clubs for each of them. They quickly found a passion for the game of golf that led them both to successful coaching careers in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Don became the head coach of the Fargo Shanley boys & girls teams where he coached for 31 years. During his time at Shanley, they won 8 state championships.

Besides coaching golf, Don & Carolyn were instrumental in starting the F-M Junior Golf Tour. The tour started in the late 80’s & offered boys & girls in the F-M area the opportunity to play tournament golf each week against one another at the area golf courses. To this day, the (FM) Junior Tour remains in place. DJ loved meeting up with friends and family at local establishments that offered great food & wonderful service.
